OmniArts GB: Generations Group

@OmniArtsGB

Generations is a new parent and toddler/baby group with a difference. Set in a care home, each session is designed to bring the younger and older generations together through creative play, instruments and singing, sensory movement/dance and arts and crafts. Our first group is based at Willow Lodge, in Emsworth, and is led by Ellie Snow. We have plans to open more groups over the next few years across the South Coast.

There has also been a lot of research done about the benefits of “bridging the generational gap”, and we are excited to be one of the first companies to be introducing a group like this. Some of these benefits of intergenerational groups are:

  •  A sense of history: learning about the past to shape the future
  •  Developing emotional and social skills
  •  Perspective – creating a better understanding of our world
  •  Improved communication skills
  •  And much more!
    You can read more about the benefits this group has to both the children and the older people on ourwebsite: www.generationsgroup.co.ukThe OmniArts GB Generations sessions are crafted to allow discussion to bring these values through, as well as exploring music, drama, dance and crafts both collaboratively and independently. We have found, through focus groups we have run for the past few years, that children get the most benefit from this group when they attend regularly, as they start to build friendships with the residents at the home, and we find both the children, and the residents, look forward to the session every week.

    Becki Short, the owner and director of OmniArts GB says: “Generations is a programme I have been working on and developing for over two years now, since seeing a video about a nursery in a care home in another country, and it’s very exciting to see it come to fruition. Willow Lodge are a fantastic home, and have welcomed the programme with open arms. We have been running the current group since September, and have already seen how the group enriches the lives of the residents, and the families who attend.”
